I think I detect a bit of cultural urban lifestyle envy? Seriously though, there is nothing on your list that holds any importance other than the "Stop and Frisk" which is being addressed and protested by various groups. I have no idea what you are talking about concerning the oil thing. A person can purchase and cook with any type of oil they choose to. If your referring to the resturant trans fat oil ban, I personally have never gone into a restuarant and ordered a dish specifically made with the stuff...have you?

As long as people are watching Maury Povich & Judge Judy, there will be obesity in America.

I haven't seen a study on the obesity rates of people that watch Cheaters?

If you'd like, you may purchase a 2 liter bottle and drink the whole thing. You may also have a block of salt fried in lard if that's your preference.

Fair point. The problem isn't diet alone. Sedentary lifestyles and sedentary recreational choices are a large contributing factor as well..

Mercifly no, never even visited. I lived Western NY state for the first 33 years of my life. A birth defect that I finally corrected.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that these soda enthusiasts are relatives of the gluttonous kids in Willy Wonka. I have never seen so much hoopla over the size of a beverage cup. Go figure.

I always figured NYC residents were pretty, oh, self confident, abrasive, perhaps rude. Not the kind of people I'd expect to want to be told what to do or not do, when to do it and to be told to pay way to much to do so. I have trouble picturing Americans anywhere putting up with some of the things NYC residents do.

1) VERY restrictive firearms ownership laws, and a virtual ban on self defense carry.
2) A government that will tell then what kind of oil then must cook their food in.
3) A government that will tell them what size soft drinks to buy
4) Willingness to put up with random "stop and frisk" searches at the whim of LE
5) Highly regulated and restricted businesses, leading to criminally high costs (taxi anyone?)

Why do people there put up with this stuff? Do you check your gonads at the border when you move to NYC?
Do you live there? Then what's your problem?
If everyone is not exactly like you, they're the problem?

It's nice to see you feel free to pulpiteer on things you know nothing about. There's a word for people who do that: Bore.

Not really a problem, I just like to try to understand different cultures. This one is a bit beyond my comprehension though.

I wonder if the problem is the culture itself or your ability to comprehend?
