Wow, it's unbelievable that this would happen in this day and age.
But I hope to watch the media and see how this pans out. Perhaps there was another reason for the firing, but if they did receive those e-mails, it'll be hard to prove otherwise.
Hearsay is not allowed in most courts. They, the ones filing the complaint, claim they heard the CEO say something. Unless they can provide a recording or an independent witness to verify the claim, it's not something that would normally be allowed in court.

1) These guys were all managers. They wouldn't be actively handling pork products like say, kitchen staff.
2) It's clear that their lawyer took this public to put pressure on IHOP to settle the claim.
3) Most of the information is one-sided and thus hard to just buy-in completely that they were wronged. However the EEOC did find merit to their complaint.
4) The alleged comments were made by the franchise owners and not by IHOP corporate.
So, we will just let the courts sort this out. <shrug>
They probably tried to take bacon and sausage off the menu.
They probably refused to handle it which is part of the job. Therefore IHOP was right to fire them for refusing to do their job.
It's similar to waitresses who refuse to serve meat plates or an alcoholic beverage to a pregnant woman- it's not your job to judge what can or cannot be served but to serve as directed.

If Chick-fil-A asks about religion during the hiring process and/or makes personnel decisions based on the religion of the employee, then they're in for major legal action.

as managers, part of their responsibility is to fill in for ANY employee that doesnt show up for work as needed. many times managers have to fill in for line cooks, and if they refuse to handle any part of that job, then they can be fired for cause.

My gay friend used to work at Chik-Fil-A. As soon as he found out how much money they poured into an anti-gay cause, he quit on the spot. He was at the manager level. Everyone wanted him to stay cause he was a great worker, but he just couldn’t work for a company that has paid million of dollars for a cause that goes against every fiber of his being.
