The GOP is Keeping us in the 19th Century (global warming, Reagan, weapon)

It seems to me that the thinking of the hyperconservatives here is the laissez faire philosophy that ruled in the latter half of the 19th century. Massive inequality, rapacious consumption of our resources, perennial saber rattling and war mongering, a view that American was divinely blessed and could steal what it wanted. White males ruled, others tread lightly and they knew their place. These were heady times when a few compiled untold wealth, and many worked for little or nothing.
It seems to me like most of the developed world has developed 20th century achievements like universal health care, environmental protections, public transportation systems that lower pollution, a strong middle class, a decline in the political influence of religion, a recognition that science should be supported and respected, and that politicians should be intelligent, highly educated people, not used care salesmen, a citizenry that embraces other culture and can speak several languages, etc. The most advanced, intelligent nations in the world have all moved in these directions, yet American conservatives seem as mired in their retrograde mindset as the hardline communists of China or N. Korea. Funny thing is, we lived through the 19th century and the 20th century was far better.
How are the American conservative demagogues (Beck, Limbaugh, Savage, Coulter, Palin, Hannity,etc.,etc.) the only group that "gets it" and all other countries and intellectual advances can be ignored? What is so great about a society of barons and serfs and uneducated masses listening to talking points by corporate schills? I liked the 20th century, and I'd like to move forward from there, not go back to a society that was unjust and unsustainable.

Now, what the hell is the vision the GOP has for the future? To create some libertarian free for all? That is a slogan, not a plan. All I seem to see is perpetual outrage and a shocking tolerance for stupid, incompetent leaders. How will they build a society that serves all its citizens fairly, and which maintains peaceful or at least knowledgeable and respectful relations around the world? I just don't see it. The whole message I get seems like a big circle jerk led by the honchos like Limbaugh. No other country, culture, philosophy, or period of history can inform a bunch of folk that want spend all day admiring their own junk while getting blown hard by talk radio pundits.
No such tthings as 'right' or 'wrong'. That all depends on what is acceptable or not acceptable.
Socially backwards is: clinging to old traditions, prejudices, superstitions, and resisting change.
Progress is based on reason, evaluating situations and conditions, and making imporovements.
But America is the land of ignorant, paranoid, gullible chumps.
Seriously, are you doing anything to elevate the situation? All I hear from you are insults about the country we share. Why do you live here? Your bitterness can't be good for your psyche.
What's wrong with traditions? Every society has traditions. Prejudices? Again, every society has them. If we're so superstitious and backwards, why are thousands trying to come live here? Help me out with your insight.

Democrats have no better ideas to fix the mess our political system has been allowed to become.

I do think moderate conservatives and moderate liberals have run this country for a hundred years. But the Dems are not purging their moderates and replacing them with fools. They have moved to the center. The current GOP is so busy chasing its tail, it has become a trainwreck, with nothing to provide except slogans, blustering, and trash talk.

Now that's funny. I have read more insults coming from the left in here than the right. I have been the butt end of their insults in regards to abortion. I have read many attacks on older white, conservative Americans by the left in here particulary men. Should we add racism to the mix also? I guess you have selective reading then.
This is the same airy fairy revisionist ideological hogwash I read here every day. Liberty! Except the Greeks were buggering kids and enslaving others and all sorts of attrocities. The British Imperialists were robbing half the world of its wealth. Same with the "Wild West" the Roaring 20s,etc. None of these eras came close to the prosperity of the mid 20th century in America, where the middle class was solid and the New Deal and Great Society programs were in full swing. We cannot have an unbridled economic system and not have an social and environmental disaster. Yet, most of the northern European nations, S. Korea, Taiwan, Japan, all exceed us in most measures of educational attainment, health,longevity, and social and environmental equality. They have passed us, because they are not chasing unicorns in Conservatopia.
Pure freedom? Are you going to let me offer abortions out of my garage? Open a child pornography palace? A "waste disposal service" where I take your old batteries and dump them in the river? How about an airline where I do my own safety inspections? It is absurd and you know it.
Doctrinaire statements are are bread and butter of the new GOP. Sensible or even feasible ideas that serve economic growth and maintain the environmental and social standards we developed in the 20th century are in very short supply.
