I can't speak for the OP, but when I hear anyone describe themself as any social descriptor with an -ist suffix, they tend to be someone I'd rather avoid if at all possible. Examples would include:
It's a negative suffix in every one of these cases, at least in the sense that it denotes one who feels superior to others in some way or another. I really have no use whatsoever for any of them.
The "bad" feminists - outright for advancing women over men
The "good" feminists - are for equal rights, but will only actually take a stand when that means advancing women
Most liberals I know fall into the "good feminist" category. But neither category of feminist is actually good in my opinion. The new term I've heard is egalitarian for people who are for equal rights and will actually live up to that, advocating for both sexes.
Since feminists have fought hard for many of the rights women have today, like the right to vote, equal pay for equal work, the right to enter into contracts and own property, I'd say women owe a lot to feminism. I'm proud to be a feminist, and I'm surprised anyone would have a negative view of it unless he or she misunderstood what feminism is.

I'm sure your beating down the door to sign up for selective service.

No, we just don't selectively edit out the bad parts. Nor do we accept "feminists are for equal rights" and then ignore what they actually do in practice.
As I said, the "good" feminists say they are for equal rights, but only actually do anything when it's women or girls getting the short end of the stick and are fine to sit back and let men and boys get the short end of the stick.

That's because feminism is about achieving women's rights in areas where women face inequality and/or discrimination. To me advocating for both men and women falls into the area of human rights or civil rights.
