Oh I love it. The grab of the bill's title is all it will take to get support of the American people.
But..it's for "the protection of the children".
Yeah..we're doomed.

Here's the Title of the bill (taken from the OP link):

"Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act"

Yeah the title is always important to note. Things like "smart" or "modernization". Most reps don't even read the bills, although they are usually so long, it makes it pretty difficult to do so.

I went and looked up an article on the cyber security act of 2012. Posted a thread about that also.

So the war on terrorism angle is being played as well. Looks like they are really trying to ramp it up.

Government never relents once they've targeted another aspect of freedom for unconstitutional regulation. It just keeps rewording the originally proposed legislation or attempting to hide it in other bills until it gets it passed. Our current government has long since dismissed it's duty to represent our interests in favor of representing the interests of politicians at the expense of repressing the best interests of those that put them in office.

Sadly, that is a big fear I have. If they can't get it through this way. They will resort to their old standby. Hide it in the bill. Then push it thru.

Agreed, it's well in keeping with their established history.

Thomas Jefferson was spot on when he said "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance". Sadly, we as a nation have woefully failed to focus that vigilance on our elected representatives. We've allowed ourselves to be manipulated into directing our vigilance toward external threats at the expense of failing to be vigilant toward the far greater domestic threats to liberty and freedom that our politicians have become.

Our nation was never intended to have a political class that has reclassified itself as a ruling class.

This is just a bump. If you are concerned about this you can contact your reps, using something like this. These things appear to be attempting to be "fast tracked".

Contacting the Congress: A Citizen's Congressional Directory

The government wants access to the internet, there's no doubt about that.
Look at the uprisings over the past year or two and social media was key in organizing.
Same with our own OWS and TEA movements and flash mobs/robs.

Now, if the economy continues to go south the government will be forced to cut programs.
How do you think the dependent masses will react ? Send emails to their reps or take to the streets ?

Oh could never happen here ? Well the folks in Greece probably never thought they would see what they are seeing today. Britain probably never thought their poor youth would take to the streets in mass and go on a crime spree but it did happen.

Yeah clearly, the govt is on a control freak agenda. Like watching a bad pac-man game.
The internet allows much less control of information and ability to respond quickly. It's pretty much key in getting anything turned around on this planet.

Greece is going to have some very serious repercussions globally and I do believe is only the beginning. They can try to paint it any way they like, but that boat has sailed.
