two terms or ten years is plenty for a president. i also agree that congress was never meant to be a full time, long term job, at least not in the house of representatives. the senate on the other hand needs to go back to what it was before the 17th amendment was ratified, and let the state legislatures choose the states senators. the house was supposed to represent the people, much like the house of commons in britain, and the senate was to represent the states, like the house of lords in britain.
and washington was in fact offered the job of president for life, and he turned it down because he did not want the office of president to become a monarchy.
