Those whose only federal income tax experience has been filling out a (1040-EZ) have little concept that every tax passed in the name of "tax the rich" has come back to bite the middle class and not the uber wealthy (see AMT as one example). They are useful idiots though they refuse to see it.
IMO, Cain's 999 plan will have similar impact on punishing the middle class. YMMV
