Cancel the wonderful tradition of the Macy's parade because of some dirty, whiny hippies?
I'd hope not!
I just heard your entire post in my late aunt's disapproving, horrified, disgusted tone of voice, as she watched anti-war protests on tv back in the 70's. How dare they actually try to stop a war! Tsk!
You have to understand, these people hate America (of course they say they don;t but they're more than willing to tell you how they fundamentally want to transform it). Any traditions or anything else that helped carve this nation into what it is today makes them utterly contemptuous.
This jaded rhetoric is so blatantly obtuse and ignorant that it puts one at risk of their eyes hemmoraghing just to read it. Yes, the Wall Street protestors are insidiously conspiring to shoot down the Garfield float and then blow up Sponge Bob.

Keep it up, BigJon.
You've got their eyes bleeding and they're fantasizing about balloons!
Pretty soon they'll start thinking about Kanye West and Al Sharpton, clad in Armani and dripping with gold, pretending to be 99 percenters...
This is the post I quoted. I heard my aunt's tone of voice, talking about and describing her abhorence of the protesters themselves. Like a lot of you, she was afraid of change too.

Afraid of change? Heck, I'm living in a paper house, sleeping on the floor, and eating raw fish. And there you sit in your McMansion, watching network news and worrying about cholesterol.
Afraid of change? You're thinking of the protestors' underwear, perhaps.
I don't think it will be cancelled but I wouldn't care if it was. Sometimes things need to change and be updated. Maybe it's time for some new traditions? You can only watch something so many times while hoping a balloon gets away afterall...

I prefer the Philadelphia parade, anyway. Macy's parade is so, well, New York. I mean, how many times can John Payne exonerate Edmund Gwenn?
What is up with the "tradition" of watching a parade on TV?
Turn off the idiot box and interact with your families on a day that is supposed to mean something besides crass commercialism.
Who knows, you might even teach your kids something about the history of America.
Sheesh, is that so hard?
Having a quiet dinner at home and relaxing together watching a parade and chatting is perfectly fine for us. What makes you think that a family taking a day or two out of the year to watch a parade precludes all other activities like reading, spending time together, family trips, game nights etc?
