"Frighteningly simplistic"- Yup, that about sums up Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld's whole approach to the War On Terrror(ism). Or GWOT, or the War Against (radical) Islam, or whatever the hell the Neocons wound up calling it.

Afghanistan is FUBAR. Obama has been trying hard to get our troops out, over his generals' objections, and to fight a smarter war, relying on technology and intellegence.

But if you want to stay ANOTHER 10 YEARS, and have our troops continue to guard Kabul's gangsters, go ahead and vote for Willard- he'll "listen to his generals"

We need to go back and finish the job in Viet Nam.

We can win it, man.

I know we can!

New Rule: No new wars till you finish the ones you're already in.

This war is unwinnable. Whatever the mission is, it appears we are losing. They want us out, Americans want us out, what's the problem? This is how they view us.

40 US invading troops killed in base attack in Panjshir, Afghanistan

Kabul, October 15: More than 40 American invaders were killed and wounded in a martyrdom operation in the northern Panjshir province, Mujahideen officials said on Saturday.
Early on Saturday morning, a team of five Mujahideen, Muhammad Sohail, Mustafa, Abdel Salaam, Bilal and Khalid, residents of the Panjshir Mujahideen Brigade, stormed the US Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Rukha district of Panjshir province, using explosive vests, hand grenades, heavy and small arms.
A heroic Mujahid of the Islamic Emirate, Abdus Salam, struck his Surf 4X4 vehicle filled with some 600 kg explosives at the gate of PRT, removing all the defensive barriers and taking out a number of security guards, letting the other four of the Mujahideen combatants get into the PRT. Intense fighting continued for nearly 4 hours.
Several dozen of the US invaders have been killed and more than 8 enemy's vehicles destroyed during the fighting, the officials added.
It is one of the most successful and deadliest operations since the Operation Badar began, marking that the US-NATO invaders and their allies are no longer safe through out the country.

"Simplistic" certainly explains the Bush administration (simple).

I don't know what the answers are, but what I do know is that this war was mishandled from the get go.

As far as the Iraq war - we shouldn't even be there and we wouldn't be if it weren't for the lies of the Bush/Cheney reign of terror.

Reminds me of that story about Bush trying to sell the Iraq invasion to Jacques Chirac back in '03 by attempting to appeal to their "common faith" by claiming Gog and Magog were returning to Mesopotamia or some such nonsense. Bush didn't realize most Catholics don't go in for all that crazy evangelical prophecy stuff.

You can hitch your wagon to Chirac all you want. He's the bigges crook in the EU. Was trying to stop the invasion cause he was in cahoots to trade oil with Iraq or euro's among other things, oil for food scandal that magically went away, for another. Then we had Turkey trying to join the EU to get in on their ill gotten bounty by denying us permision to land the 4th ID there and sweep down from the north which would have quashed the insurgency before it got started.

Now I'm on a rant. All I can say is **** on France.

It's going to be a really neat trick if Obama, the incumbent prez, can run against current policies and pin them on Romney, challenger who has never before been in national office. But it sounds like that's what the plan is....
