It isn't 1% and 99%. It's the 53% who pay federal income taxes and the 47% that don't. The ones that don't are the ones protesting.

Instead of whining and complaining about corporate America, they should be protesting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and the anti-American policies coming from the White House.

The president right on down are advocating class warfare as a distraction to what is really going on. They are the ones being divisive when they claim they want civility. Well, which is it?

Try aspiring to be rich rather than being envious and seeking entitlements and handouts. You don't take something from someone to give to another. re-distribution is socialism. Let's see the hollywood types and Warren Buffet put their money where their mouth is and pay more in taxes if they are so concerned about the deficit.

This occupy movement is so phony, it is being financed by MoveOn.org and the unions. Don't tell me it is a grass roots movement like the Tea Party. The protestors most legit point about the bailouts being a joke has been lost as they are being used by the politicians.

The protestors on Wall Street are mostly high or drunk, are having public sex, and don't even know why they are there. You want America to respect that? Give me a break.

A link from Tuesday's BusinessInsider, for anyone confused about why people in Philly and elsewhere are protesting (with lots of charts, and not too many words):

Awesome! Don't know how anyone can be against the protest after reading this.

Perhaps the request in post #41 would be heeded, but...

General discussion about the Occupy Wall Street protests is not appropriate for this region-specific forum. Going forward, posts that are not Philly-specific will put this thread at risk of being moved to the Politics and Other Controversies forum or closed.

Just saw this HuffPo story from yesterday specifically on Occupy Philadelphia:

Ugh, now I'm worried. Some of the occupy movements across the country, their cities ordered clearing of the movements. And Philadelphia has already asked the protesters to move for construction.

This is where things get violent and out of hand.

I personally will choose another route for the next few weeks that does not take me near the protest.

I don't think they're going to get violent. Everything has been very cordial in Philadelphia whereas some other cities are dealing with the issue in a more heavy handed manner. The plaza construction has been in the works now for years, so the protesters should have known about it so its not like there's the excuse that the city is trying to kick them out. There's really not much to do about it. I would think they will relocate somewhere else around City Hall.

I don't think that these people are serious enough about what they're doing to get violent.

I'll go but I think the real movement is in NYC. I just don't want to go that far.

As for violence, there aren't enough people who are ready to be violent to use it. If the entire working class had each other's back, it would be different.

since when does how serious these people are in what they are doing equate to a willingness to commit violence for their cause???

The protesters are nonviolent by choice, not because they lack commitment.
