News today that Senate Democrats led by Harry Reid will propose a new 5% surcharge on incomes over $1 million to pay for Failed Stimulous, Jr.
It is a shame that the bipartisan, centrist approach outlined by the Rivlin-Domenici group, the Simpson Bowles Deficit Commission report, and the Gang of Six outline from the deficit limit debate have all been trampled by President Obama and the Senate leadership.
Even Warren Buffett's pleading for higher taxes on America's 50,000 richest would leave top marginal rates in place, and only collect from those who for whatever reason are not paying the full load (due to capital gains, etc.)
This would be a fine moment to reform the tax code, take the garbage out, simplify, reduce the dead-weight costs of tax compliance, flatten and lower rates, and COLLECT MORE MONEY. That is what all the bipartisan efforts have suggested. But no, Obama and Reid stick with the same old propaganda and cheap posturing.
Obama hoped to become the black Abe Lincoln or JFK, but he will end up looking like Walter Mondale after the thrashing in 2012. We've had enough of subsidizing failure and demonizing success. Just my opinion...the Republicans will have to find a contender.
We will have to make a important decision. Contender, or do we really want 4 more yrs of this crap, this administration has handed to us. I don't. Learn a lesson, make a mistake once, second time you correct it. At this point, anyone almost would be better then 4 more yrs of this. This ain't no Hope nor is this good Change.
