The signs in the front window of the little white Chicago Heights house were there for all to see: “No Trespassing,” “We Call Police” and “Alert One Security Systems.”
Isn't a "we call police" sign kind of an invitation to a home invasion? As opposed a sign that says "trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again"?
I hope the homeowner doesn't get in trouble for baiting the animals to his hunting area.
Chicago unemployment is at 10%, imagine how high it is for teenagers. I'm not defending the kid, because the home owner did the right thing. You have to wonder if this kid would have even committed this crime if there had not been such high unemployment for the past three years.
What was the Chicago crime rate like a few years ago, when the economy was booming? I doubt that there is a significant difference. Entitlement zones breed criminals.
B&E of a home is a pretty ballsy offence and not often the work of some otherwise decent kid with a growling stomach. The kid could have just shoplifted (misdemeanor).
Guys home has been broken into 5 times in 40 years.
The point I'm making is that for three years now our economy has been sliding off the cliff, and this will have the impact of pushing those desperate, out of work, juvenile fence sitters, to go from pranks and petty crimes to home burglary. One in four eighteen years olds in Chicago area are probably unemployed, with no visible hope for improvement on the horizon.
But he was in Chicago. It's a gun free zone so there is no crime.
I'm sure Mr. Harris had to unlock his bedroom, unlock the safe with a combination and a biometric eye scan to retrieve the gun. He then had to open a separate safe with 2 keys and a PIN number to get the ammo. Guns and ammo can't be stored together since the ammo may magically enter the gun and kill the next person that picks it up.
I'm glad that Mr. Harris had a weapon so that he wasn't victimized by the thuglette.
harris was the neighbor whose house had been broken into 5 times. the homeowner was apparently a gentleman named ron thompson.

When we start to make excuses for this behavior, for any reason, something is wrong. Things are bad all over, even for the 16 families i know of who have been hit hard by the lost of a job or and a home too. Their are teens living in the homes. Things get tough, but you don't justify this behavior, because of bad times.
Should all the teenagers across this Country, vow to this same behavior, wrong is wrong. And a criminal mind is exactly that.

Good for the homeowner. Now hopefully he'll be left alone.
