In Summerville, SC, Annie Caddell's, proudly fly's her Confederate Flag, claiming she is proud of her "Southern Heritage".

Her neighbors, have boycotted, attempted a petition to the city council and built 8 ft solid wooden fences on either side of her house to block the view from the flag.

What do you think? Does she have the right, freedom and liberty to do so?
Should she be forced to take it down?

She can fly the flag if she wants, and her neighbors are free to ostracize her if they find it offensive. Unless she's actively promoting hatred, why should the city council intervene? Seems pretty simple to me.

Incomprehensible to me.

She does have the right if she's not otherwise violating an ordinance, etc.

I'm proud of my Southern heritage too. There's a cemetery in Georgia where half my male ancestors are buried. I own a Confederate flag and a collection of family civil war stuff, including a cavalry sabre that I'm pretty sure wasn't used to chop wood.

I display the sword over my fireplace because it's a family heirloom. Someone gave me the flag ages ago and I never fly it. It's a real one (in the sense that it is not the "battle flag"), most people probably wouldn't recognize it as being a Confederate flag anyway.

I don't need to **** off a bunch of people to celebrate my heritage, so it sits with some other memorabilia in the closet. I don't think that anyone that flies the Stars and Bars is celebrating their "Southern Heritage", I think they are just people who want to start an argument.

They should grow up.

Most people confuse the Northern Virginia Battle Flag with the Stainless banner, which was a white flag with the battle flag as a portion of it in the top left corner, and then the bloodstained flag was a variation with a red strip down the right side of the white background.

It's sad that people who claim intelligence cannot either tell the difference between these flags and keep calling the battle flag the confederate flag, or simply either refuse to learn, or cannot learn the difference.
