We are one of the only countries, if not the only country in the world that has one vote for a budget and a second vote for a debt ceiling.

It makes no sense for politicians to vote to pass a budget - which mandates taxing, spending, and, by subtraction, a certain inevitable amount of debt (or surplus- hahaha!) - and then have a second vote on how much debt is allowed.

If the politicians didn't want the debt to be increased, then they shouldn't vote for a budget that raises the amount of debt. No second vote is necessary.

If there ever was a point where you said "screw that, we ain't paying" you'd be in mid revolution anyways and you'd still have to pay it back after you got things all worked out or go to war.

So in other words if you ever said you weren't going to pay back your debt you mise well declare war (on whoever wants some?) while you're at it.

So why have a debt ceiling when you know that if you're going to be in decline for a while to come?

To try and maintain your standard of living.

The debt ceiling is only an excuse for our credit to be downgraded.

I'm thinking about it. Why keep paying all my bills when these folks keep getting em paid for by me too? Hell how long would it take em to get me out of my house now? Years? Tell the credit card companies to stick it. What are they gonna do? Sell it off to a collection agency for .10 on the dollar eventually and then let them try and collect that. It's all gonna collapse soon anyway. May as well have my mattress stuffed. With what I'm not sure. Ramens maybe.
