ATF Manager says he shared Fast and Furious Info with White House - CBS News Investigates - CBS News

Quote:
At a lengthy hearing on ATF's controversial gunwalking operation today, a key ATF manager told Congress he discussed the case with a White House National Security staffer as early as September 2010.

It's the first time anyone has publicly stated that a White House official had any familiarity with ATF's operation Fast and Furious, which allowed thousands of weapons to fall into the hands of suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels in an attempt to gain intelligence.
Well, that's because they've been desperately trying to stonewall and cover it up.

Turns out, the ATF had plenty of partners in this disastrous operation;

VIDEO: ATF agent who implemented 'Fast and Furious' says 4 federal agencies were 'full partners' | Philip Klein | Beltway Confidential | Washington Examiner (http://washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/2011/07/video-atf-agent-who-implemented-fast-and-furious-says-4-federal-a#ixzz1TGLxEx00 - broken link)

Four federal agencies were "full partners" in the Obama administration's bungled Operation Fast and Furious, which allowed guns to wind up in the hands of Mexican drug lords, the man who implemented the program revealed today at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

William Newell, the former head of the Phoenix field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, was pressed by Rep. Pat Meehan, R-Penn. to identify all the federal agencies involved in the operation.

In response, Newell identified the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service as "full partners" with the ATF.

Gunwalker scandal called "perfect storm of idiocy" - CBS News Investigates - CBS News

Quote:
Documents obtained by Congressional investigators show weapons - sold under ATF's watch in Operation Fast and Furious out of the Phoenix office - have been used by at least three Mexican drug cartels: Sinaloa, El Teo and La Familia.

In other words, Congressional investigators say the very agency charged with preventing weapons from falling into the hands of violent cartels south of the border ... instead facilitated it.
And of course, as we would expect, the obama ATF is out to shut the witnesses up.

Issa: Obama admin intimidating witnesses in ATF gun probe - Washington Times

Quote:
The Obama administration sought to intimidate witnesses into not testifying to Congress on Tuesday about whether ATF knowingly allowed weapons, including assault rifles, to be “walked” into Mexico, the chairman of a House committee investigating the program said in an interview Monday.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa, California Republican, said at least two scheduled witnesses expected to be asked about a controversial weapons investigation known as “Fast and Furious”received warning letters from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to limit their testimony.
Now, we all know the media is consumed with the debt debate...but if the WH thinks this "blackout" will hold, they got another thing coming.

The ATF has tried all along to deflect, dodge, weave and stonewall...this latest is no surprise.

The claim by senior ATF officials that none of the weapons lost in the botched Fast and Furious sting operation were used in the shooting of a Border Patrol agent is not supported by FBI ballistics tests, according to a copy of the FBI report on the shooting.

Last week, spokesmen Scot Thomasson and Drew Wade of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told The Times that the FBI had assured them that neither of the two Fast and Furious weapons found at the scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry's death were the ones that killed the agent.
Turns out, that's not quite true.....

President Richard Nixon faced impeachment for trying to coverup a simple B&E by his campaign staff that he did not know anything about before it happened.
