Obama’s coal tax

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Wednesday finalized “cross-state air pollution” regulations designed to drive coal-plant operators out of business.

...
Beginning Jan. 1, industrial facilities in 28 Eastern and Central states will be subject to draconian restrictions on emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, pollutants that potentially can cross borders.

...
Coal plants will be forced to install new scrubber equipment that provides marginal improvement in air quality at tremendous expense. This cost will be passed along to the consumer in the form of higher electricity costs.

...
Electric bills will jump 12 percent by 2016 with areas such as Kentucky and Tennessee seeing a 24 percent increase. Employment will drop by a net 1.4 million jobs.

...
The Obama administration is just fine with this outcome. Currently, 45 percent of electricity comes from coal because it’s abundant and inexpensive. The left prefers to flirt with windmills and solar panels, which depend on breezes and daylight to function. There’s no way these inefficient schemes could be competitive without the government stepping in to hobble coal.

American dependence on unproven & failed technology

More dependence on foreign sources of energy.

Higher costs for the consumer.

American jobs are lost.

More debt and deficits as the government makes bad investments.

I suppose all you freedom lovers think consumers should determine which forms of energy our society utilizes?

My state gets 80% of its electrical energy from coal burning power plants. It sits on reserves of coal that the EPA has deemed too dirty to use (going back decades). We are in a week of temps supassing 105 F and Obama wants people to not be able to afford air conditioning.

Why does Obama hate the elderly, disabled, and infirmed who need the air conditioning for health purposes? The taxes will be passes on to the consumers at a time the average American can least afford it,

Why does Obama want to harm the middle class and make them to suffer by not being able to afford energy? Is this part of this "death panel" plan for killing off that segment of poor dependent and those upon Medicare so that he can steal another 1/2 $billion or more for Obamacare?

Your title is a pure lie. Nothing incdicates "coal companies" will be shut down...let alone coal plants.

What you want is for coal companies to be able to pollute as much as they want.

Why do Republicans hate the environment? Why do Republicans think corporations are innocent and should be loved? Why are Republicans so concerned about granny affording air conditioning, but subsequently not concerned about granny being able to breathe?

When the first 5 electricity generating plants closed down from the new rules from the EPA did you fail to see what they had done to all of us? Those won't be the last ones to close and up goes the price of electricity with the EPA rules that Obama couldn't get through the Congress. Ah yes, the title of this thread is so truthful to all but the Obamaites here.

Why do Dems fail to see that when any new volcano eruption occurs there is more of those so-called air killing elements thrown into the air than in years of our human activity? Well I guess that is because some of you have been taken in by global warming that is no longer talked about by the people who pushed it so hard. Did you know that the global temperature has dropped nearly one degree Fahrenheit in the past several years? Maybe that is why the warmers became climate changers.
