The kid was assaulting some one (not quite a scuffle, he was kicking the crap out of some one...a violent felony as an adult), and ran when the officer identified himself and ordered him to stop. The cop chased the kid, and after identifying himself several times the kid kicked a shed door into the officers face and jumped at him.
Even basic logic tells people that if a person jumps a cop, that cop is going to defend themselves. A good number of cops have been jumped and end up going home in a box. It's rather hard to say how much of a threat some one is when they come lunging out of the dark into your face. They are human beings with families they want to come home to.
It is rather telling about bias from the crazy blog posted as reference that contains almost no actual facts and a massive number of ad hominems. Plus that the OP's location is "The occupied Southland", a rather fun neo-confederate militia term, where all law enforcement seem to be part of the vast conspiracy keeping people down.

But of course he's dead, so his side of the story doesn't matter much. I would expect that from the terrified bleeding heart liberals in the PNW, but Missouri usually has been a state where most still enjoy liberty and the presumtion of innocence until proven guilty. The fact that you have been convinced to live in fear, and therefore in dire need of a nanny state disappoints me.

A 15 year old shot a cop three times in DC last week. The death of a child is tragic, yes, but do not kid yourself that there aren't young hoodlums out there who will kill a man without thinking twice.
