Y'know, about the tax part.

I don't have a problem paying higher taxes, if it improves my quality of life.

I'm a little shocked that this post centered in on Denmark, which is one of the better countries in Scandinavia economically and socially.

If Danes are smart, they will keep on resisting the massive wave of immigration from the middle-east, and from certain Eastern-European countries which are hurting them. Keep the "love bridge" between Copenhagen and Malmo basically closed.

The problem with many social/socialist policies is that it basically promotes unemployment, or more importantly it supports people being unproductive. You cannot have a contiunual promotion of non-productive/unemployment/social benefits, or there will eventually be a very negative effect on quality of life. Which will undoubtedly drag down the happiness rate(which Denmark is always at the top of).

While I think Denmarks definitely gives way too much to the leeches of the world in a variety of basically free benefits. They are nothing compared to most of Western Europe. Maybe we should contrast a bit between Malmo and Copenhagen for instance.

This is nothing more than a lie perpetrated by the government to make excuses for their programs.

There is always work to be done. And there is always someone willing to pay someone to do the work. And there is always someone willing to do the work.

The only reason we have unemployment in this country is because the governmnt makes it too expensive to do business.

P.S You call structural unemployment a "benefit". LOLs.

On what do you base this? It's quite a grandiose claim. I've not even seen the most right-wing economists go that far.

A good book I read is CultureShock! Denmark by Morten Strange. It helps expatriates get used to living in Denmark. While there are good things about Denmark, their government is not sustainable.

If you read the book, it shows the monthly wage of workers in the country. Construction workers earn $2,442 a month, cashiers earn $2,308, and salespeople earn $2,545. Or, you can collect unemployment benefits at $2,539 a month. So, without counting the extravagant benefits given for other programs, like welfare or disability, you can earn more than a working person without working.
The 60s called. They want their rethoric back.

Flippancy asides, I really have heard these predictions about the unsustainability of the welfare state since the 60s. And over the decades, the welfare state has only gotten more successful. It should be clear that a system isn't unsustainble if it has been outperforming the competition for half a century.

The system works as long as people are willing to pay the cost, and feel they are getting their moneys worth. Its that simple. If people aren't willing to pay what it costs, but still want the benefits, you get Greece and California. At the other end, you get the USA where people can't actually imagine a situation where they get their moneys worth from taxes.

Which is what prompted the OP, I think.
