Unfortunately, that will take a long time, even if the perfect candidate turned up tomorrow. Now that we've had a black president, a black president is no longer a "novelty", regardless of his qualifications. If a highly qualified black candidate ran against a woman, or a hispanic, or a Martian - the masses would only be interested in making "history".
