Guns were also made for the sole purpose of killing people.

Woops, there goes the argument.

Nope....don't think so.

I live in an area where I am surrounded by the Amish......true pacifists in ever sense of the word. They wouldn't shoot you even if you shot their children.

Yet, they ALL have firearms. Hunting puts food on their table and is part of their way of life.

I say "firearms" because "guns" are artillery pieces, not rifles, shotguns, or pistols.

In Washington DC they instituted a "gun" ban and violent crime INCREASED.

When the "gun" ban was lifted, violent crime DECREASED dramatically.

The Amish may use them differently, but the inventors of the gun were looking for a new way to win wars rather than swinging swords at each other.

True...... to an extent.

It also beat using a bow and arrow to kill game and survive or prevent being eaten by a hungry animal.

That also discounts completely the minor fact that there are armed criminals who mean to do you harm.

Do you deny that a person can use a firearm to protect themselves or as a deterrent to violence?

In a perfect world, there would be no use or need for firearms, but in reality, there are bad people who possess them and always will.

I do too. But at the same time, I doubt that responsible "gun" owners run around with them either.

What I'm saying in reply only to your one comment is that one anecdotal instance (this AZ shooter) shouldn't be applied to such a vast and complicated debate.
