The last time I checked, the Congress is empowered to enact legislation not the President. That being the case why is the President negotiating those things that are within Congress's purview, and even if such negotiations do take place outside of the purview of Congress, what binds the Congress to the fruit of such negotiations.

In short, if you don't like the damned deal, write and pass one that you like! It's your damned job!

To paraphrase Lee Iacoccoa: Lead, Follow or get the f@*! out of the way.

Congressional democrats did introduce two bills which the republicans shot down and have made it clear they want to be children and will not compromise. Put simply, Obama cut to the chase and sat down behind closed doors with McConnell and the right to work out something they both would agree on and would get the votes in congress to pass. The right came out on top and appear to agree but besides the republicans with a (D) next to their name, the democrats are outraged with Obama's cave. The bill still will go through congress which Biden and Obama are trying to get the democrats to vote on. Right now it's in the democrat's hands in congress to fold with Obama, or stand up, do the right thing, and vote against it.

OP, because big government shills love to stick their hands in the cookie jar when it doesn't belong to them. It's as simple as that

Not necessarily. As it sits now, the Obama agreement is 80/20 in favor of the republicans. It's a big card game and it's down to the democrats in congress to fold their hand with Obama, or call the republican's bluff, kick the table over and come out gloves off and guns blazing.

Oh please. All the republicans got was the extension of the status quo, the democrats got an unprecedented extension (again) of UE benefits that will likely bankrupt many states and further cripple our government. I dare the democrats to kick the table over and reject it. It would be so like them to balk, whine, and complain, even though they clearly got the better deal.

Oh yes, those Democrats are in a WONDERFUL and STRONG position. They just came back to Washington, with a brand-new whole-hearted vote of support from the people, who love the entire progressive agenda...

No, wait, that is not what happened. Nancy Botoxi was deposed as Speaker. Harry Reid hung on by his fingernails. Dozens of Dems went down to defeat. It was the biggest swamping in seven decades.

President Obama, to his credit, finally has a bipartisan accomplishment. It is the best work of his young career. And now the losers assembled in an aptly-named "lame duck" session are turning against the leader of their own party, the President of the United States.

Here's the progressive's problem: In a matter of weeks, the Republican Majority in the house and the working group in the Senate (Republicans plus red-state Dems up for election in 2012) can write the law any way they want. Obama will be lucky to come away with the same deal. And the people will know that a deal was on the table in December, and could have been passed, but for the lame-duck Dems.

The President agreed, the Republicans agreed, centrist Dems agreed....so the fault will go to the "progressives" who are trying valiantly to cut their nose off to spite their face.

Good. Let's see the Dems let the tax cuts expire for all. Their base will love that.

Is that a bad thing? Do you honestly trust the dems to try to save money?
