I am very much concerned about the plans the U. S. Navy wishes to implement in their 5-year Warfare Testing Program known formally as the Northwest Training Range Complex which will cover large areas along both coasts of the United States and parts of the Gulf of Mexico.
These tests would involve the use of sonar devices and many hazardous chemicals, including Depleted Uranium and Hydrogen Cyanide. The use of these devices along with the chemicals could seriously disrupt the normal life of such species as whales and dolphins, causing them to beach or become seriously ill and die. Other species could ingest the chemicals and suffer the same consequences as well.
Several environmental groups such as CaliforniaSkyWatch.com and AgricultureDefenseCoation.com have raised serious concerns about this testing program to take place without Congressional hearings to determine the safety to marine life and those living along the adjacent coastal areas involved.
The National Oceans amd Atmospheric Administration in Washington D. C. is trying to ram these tests through before the effects are fully recognized and known thus not allowing the public sufficient time to respond as is required by law.
It is possible the Navy may want to use the people living along the testing area as guinea pigs as the government has often done in the past (placing military personnel within dangerous range of atomic bomb testing) without their knowledge or consent. If such is the case this is an outright violation of all concepts of morality and human rights.
I feel it is imperative that letters be sent to Congressional representatives, governors of your state, state legislators, local officials asking they contact Congress to demand an investigation. Also the media should be contacted.
If not controlled properly these tests could create the next environmental disaster rivaling or exceeding the recent oil spill by BP. Already our oceans and marine life along with the lives of those living along those areas have been impacted badly enough and could not stand another devastation as great.
I suggest you contact the above sites to learn in greater detail what is involved in this matter. You can obtain Environmental Impact Statements and other critical data to completely inform you of this pending disaster.
Let's prevent another possible ecological disaster before it happens.
