Science solves programs, develops products and cures for diseases. A better question would be 'why do some people NOT value something that has given mankind so much?'

Are you forgetting it was a liberal president who started the space program? Liberals aren't against the space program. We may disagree on what goals are worth funding and which ones are not but we're not against the space program in any way shape or form.
Because science is fact and proveable. Religion is not. I'd rather believe science which there is no doubt that exists verses religion that has no proof.
I don't know the percentages but I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of all scientific "breakthroughs" throughout the history of mankind have proven to be fiction. Many with disastrous consequences.
But personally, this geologist leans conservative.
Where is good o'l Al "Rabid Sex Poodle" Gore lately?
When people use Al Gore to discuss science, it shows they have, once again, confused politics for science.
Al Gore is only a politician who believes in science. Science is something completely different than Al Gore. Science takes many forms, many not understood by Americans. In fact, with all the disinformation further clouding the topic, I'd say Americans are some of the least educated on the subject in the entire world. Couple that with the fact we are the worlds biggest polluters and you understand two things:
1) Many Americans are stupid
2) Disinformation works
