If you had any thought that the push to legalize marijuana was for "medicinal" other than political here's more proof of the political motivation.

Another opportunity to unionize!

Teamsters Organize Pot Growers - WSJ.com

About 40 employees of an Oakland, Calif., marijuana-growing company joined the Teamsters union earlier this month, becoming what are believed to be the first pot growers to unionize in the country.

Employees of the grower, Marjyn Investments LLC, which grows pot for medicinal purposes, approached the union earlier this year, said Marty Frates, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 70. The pot-grower's employees ratified a two-year contract in early September, he said.

It amazes me that the Teamsters union is actually having workers involved in an activity that is illegal at the federal level sign contracts and pay dues. It would follow that the Teamsters Union is profiting from federally illegal activity.

But the larger picture is this illustrates organized labor becoming organized crime in the illegal drug trade. When the Mafia profits from illegal drugs it it is somehow more illegal than when the Teamsters Union is involved and profiting from it? Really?

??? becoming ???

My only problem with union involvement is the increase in the price of the commodity. Otherwise, it should obligate Donks to support legalization. That should be the Donks focus and last act before adjourning for the November campaign. Not a reason for re-election, just a good move which I would heartily support.

listen to you people going crazy over something LEGAL in their state. When you create an industry to help sick people, and the federal government comes in and raids your business, shoots your dog, and throws you in prison, wouldn't it be a good idea to protect yourself?

Do you conservatives think the same way about the Arizona immigration law? Or is Federal intervention only right when it fits your agenda?

Marijuana is still federally controlled substance and illegal. When the Teamsters Union then collects money, in the form of dues, from workers participating in a federally illegal drug trade, it may indeed make them accessories to a federal crime.

My debate has nothing to do with whether pot should be legalized but a look at current federal law and the Teamster Union involvement in a federally illegal activity.

So, if you can keep your arguement on topic rather than trying to deflect and re-direct to other topics your input is appreciated. Otherwise, it is thread hijacking.

Better yet, why should taxpayer dollars be committed to bailing out the pension of the Teamster Union if they are engaged in profiteering off the growing and distribution of federally illegal drugs?
