Many Americans are saying the economy is in worst shape and it's like the Great Depression. Now let's take a look at this. Businesses are leaving, the unemployment rate is extremely high, people are coming to the USA from other parts of the world, more racial tension and distrust, people desperate for money, business owners going broke.

It does look like the late 1920s and 1930s are replaying themselves, don't they? Is it worst than the Great Depression?

When we standing in line for bread then its worse. Right now we just print money and people who are broke are dealing with government social programs.
Of which the government enjoys.

Not even close. The recession of 1980-81 was also worse, albeit shorter.

There are jobs out there. Pick up the classifieds or go onto Craigslist. People are hiring. It may not be the job or pay that you want or you even may have to move, but with enough effort most people could find a job today. There are some unfortunates though.

However, this was not the case during the Great Depression.

True, as measured by the unemployment rate it doesn't look as bad. In 1982 it went above 10% and stayed there for 10 months. On the other hand, back then the pain was concentrated on those without college degrees. Neither was as bad as the great Depression. There are some jobs available, but at least five unemployed for each opening.

We haven't hit bottom yet.
1929 crash to 1934 was 5 years of up and down..mostly down.

We have some time to go yet..we're only into year 3 of this downturn.
