Naseer Warraich, of the Association of Pakistani Canadians, said his organization has so far been able to raise only $30,000 toward it’s $1-million fundraising goal, and that he is still trying to figure out why.

“Nobody was expecting such big damage. But, from what I’m seeing, the response is slow compared to Haiti and other disasters,” he said.

Hollywood is a pretty fickle crowd when it comes to which natural disasters they will support aid to. I've read the US has sent a significant amount of humanitarian aid taken in by helicopters already.

Gotta love the fickle Eurotrash media. When they're not busy trashing the US for "playing World Cop" they trash us for not cleaning up the world's messes fast enough.

It sounds like nothing more than "disaster fatigue" to me. There's only so much people can emotionally handle.

Plus, everybody's broke. The US is bankrupt. It's high time for everybody to start looking toward China for their hand-outs.

The world will never know how sorry it's going to be when the bad, bad American empire falls and Red China rises.

Exactly. 'Disaster fatigue,' the very phrase I was about to use...

Western countries have rallied to Pakistan's aid, with the US and Britain the leading donors in the drive to raise $US460 million in the first 90 days. Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, is expected to attend a special meeting of the UN General Assembly on Thursday to show solidarity with Pakistan, diplomats said.

Not a single Islamic nation appeared yesterday on the UN's latest list of donors, despite efforts to reach out to them.

The US had pledged $US62million, followed by Britain with $US26 million, bringing current commitments to $US204million - less than half of the UN's goal.

Japan came third with $US13 million, followed by lesser pledges from 18 other countries. The World Bank promised a $US900 million loan.

Plus I've seen exactly one news report on it, unlike Haiti which was the lead story on even local newscasts. I do have to say that I don't keep the TV tuned to newschannels so my observation is likely skewed a bit.

I don't know, I've donated to both Mercy Corps and Doctors Without Borders for Pakistan.

I've donated too. My best friend lives there in the flooded area. I've been trying desperately to reach him for days now to find out if he and his family are safe. I can only pray for them.

It's terrible but one has to realize how great a tragedy Haiti was in comparison. Hundreds of thousands died in a instant and Haiti is in our backyard.
