To me, these glaring omissions mean that the movement might just be a method to co-opt and siphon off legitimate, righteous dissatisfaction. Regardless of these shortcomings, they named their group after the historic Boston Tea Party in which American colonists fought taxation without representation. The name makes sense.
It is quite apparent that you know very little about the TEA Party movement. First of all, the "TEA" in the TEA Party is an acronym for "Taxed Enough Already" and was not named after the historic Boston Tea Party event. Second, the TEA Party movement began in 1978. They always protest on April 15th during, or just prior to, the year of a massive tax increase. Whenever there has been a Democrat controlled White House and Congress, there have been massive tax increases and TEA Party protests. Before Obama was elected President, the last time the TEA Party held protests on April 15, 1993, when Clinton was President and Democrats controlled Congress, during the year of a massive retro-active tax increase. Before that, the TEA Party protested on April 15, 1978 when Carter was President and Democrats controlled Congress, just prior to a massive tax increase.

Now if you are under the age of 33, and did not bother doing any research, then you may not have been aware of the last TEA Party protests prior to Obama since you would have been 17 years old or younger.

Leftists are hardly "progressive." Just because they hijack the language in order to try to paint themselves as being forward thinkers does not mean it is remotely true. Leftists also tried to paint themselves as "liberals", and they are anything but. The only thing leftists are "liberal" about is how liberally they spend other people's money. You should try to distinguish between leftist propaganda and reality.

You could be right I believe 1.4 million people voted for Ron Paul who were the neocons and GWB and against the republican est. All of these issues in 2008 and were the original tea party movement. I'm sure many birthers, racists and other mixed nuts have joined over the years because they generally hate government and think they have a voice. Its too bad for you the tea party movement only has a few of those kooks and generally has people who just are tired of big government and this war.
But I'm not surprised because in 2008 when ROn Paul was right and predicted the economic crash and every liberal and neocon laughed and called him a kook he was right. He was right about Obama, McCain and the war.
Again you laugh at the idea of limited government.
I wonder who is winning and will be laughing ... Obama, this congress or the ideas of the tea party and Ron Paul come 2010 and 2012. The Ron paul revolution is taking over the republican party and they will do everything they can to stop it but the idea of limited government has finally come.
You can fool america for a short period of time but the bailouts, taxes and forced government envasion of liberty doesn't lie.

And we had one of the strongest postwar economies after the Clinton tax policies.

Brilliant protesting on the part of the teabaggers, no?

Of course, that economy had nothing to do with the tech bubble... No, it was all Clinton.

The only one mentioning Clinton and the tech bubble is you, chum.

The 1993 tea party gang simply looked into their crystal and muffed it, BIG time. The old cliche about taxes and recoveries was blown out of the water that time. But the teabaggers we have now can't remember that far back.

momonkey already said what I believe so I will address what has not been said. Why should there be shame in any conservative support of a Republican? It's not like the media will give any third party candidate any air time so the masses will even know they exist? We, the citizens, get two choices, a Democrat or a Republican. A third party may have a chance in local or state elections where there is more chance of coverage but in the national media there is no chance of that happening.

This Tea Party person is down to one choice and it would never be a Democrat.

Yet the teabaggers consistently refer to themselves as "nonpartisan."

You are uninformed or just ignore the truth like so many anti Tea party people. This Tea Party started in 2007 when Bush was in office. Minds boggling how so many miss that simple fact.

Let me get this straight, Clinton issued stocks for companies like Netscape, Pets.com, We've got no product.com, We've got no idea what we are doing.com that would rise 200% in a day as investors sought out the next big thing only to have their hopes and money dashed because there was no there, there. That certainly was all Clinton's fault. Yikes!
