isn't it funny as hell? The left must send out character asassination memos every week.

Let's see.......... last week it was the judge who overturned Obama's effort to lay off 30,000 oil workers to help his billionaire friend, George Soros. Now it is McChrystal. The left has become hilarious.

The funny thing is that the left does not even see the other side of the coin. If the above "accusations" are true, then Obama was a superlative idiot to hire him in the first place and lacks judgement. I think that the "character asassination" train should head toward Obama, as he is the main incompetent in his administration.

By some accounts, McChrystal's career should have been over at least two times by now. As Pentagon spokesman during the invasion of Iraq, the general seemed more like a White House mouthpiece than an up-and-coming commander with a reputation for speaking his mind. When Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made his infamous "stuff happens" remark during the looting of Baghdad, McChrystal backed him up. A few days later, he echoed the president's Mission Accomplished gaffe by insisting that major combat operations in Iraq were over. But it was during his next stint – overseeing the military's most elite units, including the Rangers, Navy Seals and Delta Force – that McChrystal took part in a cover-up that would have destroyed the career of a lesser man.

Two years later, in 2006, McChrystal was tainted by a scandal involving detainee abuse and torture at Camp Nama in Iraq. According to a report by Human Rights Watch, prisoners at the camp were subjected to a now-familiar litany of abuse: stress positions, being dragged naked through the mud. McChrystal was not disciplined in the scandal, even though an interrogator at the camp reported seeing him inspect the prison multiple times. But the experience was so unsettling to McChrystal that he tried to prevent detainee operations from being placed under his command in Afghanistan, viewing them as a "political swamp," according to a U.S. official. In May 2009, as McChrystal prepared for his confirmation hearings, his staff prepared him for hard questions about Camp Nama and the Tillman cover-up. But the scandals barely made a ripple in Congress, and McChrystal was soon on his way back to Kabul to run the war in Afghanistan.

this thread isn't about whether he should have been forced to give his resignation (not fired) it is about cremating him and based on a story from one of the most left wing sources there is. The Nation make the Huffington Post look conservative.

I think most of us agree he messed up big time, but again, that has been discussed on several threads here.

I brought an honorable man down, huh? Tillman's mother seems to think that a she was and is entitled to a thorough investigation to get the answers to the questions that wull plague her for the rest of her life. Who are you or anyone else to deny her that? You most likely have no clue as to her stance on this and yet you defend someone that you do not know personally based on the fact that you have a dire need and compulsion to express an opposing view.

McCrystal was involved in prior incidents, his speech in 2009 criticizing the strategy of the president and secretary of defense, his connection with the circumstances after Pat Tillman’s death, torture of detainees in Iraq. Mostly old news but this put him over the top.

He would have been the best person to serve in Afghanistan but I think he felt they just would not replace him. This was not an assassination by the liberal media; he should have shown better judgment regardless of which media was in the room.

Blind obedience always ignores the message.

For the rightwing, remaining oblivious is part of the plan.

Better judgement yes, but it also is an assassination by the liberal press as too many things are. Of course I wouldn't expect you to agree with anything that wasn't somewhat slanted.

The article was also quite complimentary of McCrystal leadership abilities and education, I guess thatwas slanted also.

Ok. Look he didn't rise to the rank of General by accident. He knew the rules of the game. He broke the rules of the game. He owns what came next. Politicians are fickle lovers at best. No one makes a better fall guy than a military man. Look what happened to General Colin Powell.
