When you play lousy music and assume all of your listeners are dumb yinzers with a juvenile mentality like WDVE does, you are doomed to fail. I am just wondering what took so long. That station has not changed in thirty years. Maybe a new owner will step in and blow some dust off of some of those records or CDs or mp3s that they surely have but never play. The city has been changing, but WDVE has refused to. It finally has caught up with them.

Clear Channel is not only WDVE but yea radio must make improvements if it wants to stay around with the internet and iPods. I wonder if this will mean all of their station's will go off the air. That would take away a lot of stations.

I know there is more to Clear Channel than WDVE. I was just giving one example of bad radio under Clear Channel's watch. With satellite radio, it is time to put up or shut up. Clear Channel allowing WDVE to perform like it does is akin to an employer allowing an employee to continuously perform below standards. I guess you can tell that I despise WDVE. Nothing against Floyd, Rush, and the other artists that are staples on the station. It is more about a mentality that they promote that rubs me the wrong way. I am so glad I have Sirius. To me it is a great value.

Yea I can't stand the mentality that is constantly shown on WDVE either.

That mentality earns them ratings, though. WDVE and KDKA always duke it out for the highest ratings in Pittsburgh.

They have ratings because old habits die hard. If people are not given much choice, they seem to find their way back to 102.5 if they want to listen to rock as opposed to hip hop or whatever. My problem is not with rock, but with the predictability in the music that is played on WDVE. If Pittsburgh had twenty powerful rock stations, WDVE would not have such ratings. Unfortunately, the FCC does not allow it. That brought companies like Clear Channel into the fold. Elvis Costello wrote about this issue thirty years ago in his song Radio Radio. WDVE would never play this one of course.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3050B4uo4Q
