Do any of you know if there are any public pools in Pittsburgh, and where would be the closest to Highland Park/Shadyside? Are there any in safe neighborhoods? Which is the favorite of you guys on here? I was thinking of getting a season pass to Sandcastle but I don't know about going there 3x/week by myself. Anyway any replies appreciated.

There's a public pool in Highland Park in the park, or there used to be.

Does anyone know if there is still a public pool at Highland Park? I read somewhere that there is one in Bloomfield, is it safe there to go? I'd really like to go this summer a few times to lay out and to swim, anyone have any info on the Highland Park one or Bloomfield?

The public pool in Highland Park is still open.

And so is Bloomfield's.

It's safe. Highland Park's pool is huge and has lap swimming at 5:00-6:00 in the evening in the summer. It has more trees around it, whereas Bloomfield's is open, surrounded by concrete, but it's often not crowded.

The thing is that it can be quite cool in the summers here to swim.

Given the choice I'd go to Bloomfield.

Highland Park's pool gets CROWDED during the summer and you'll run into a lot of obnoxious, rowdy behavior being that the pool is in close proximity to quite a few inner city neighborhoods, where some of the kids just don't know how to conduct themselves. Sorry, I call it like I see it. I've seen far too many kids up at Highland Park's pool actin' the fool. The city has closed most of the pools in the inner city neighborhoods, so Highland Park is the pool of choice for most people living in the Eastern end of the city.

Schenley Park is another public pool in the city that you might want to frequent. Schenley Park borders Oakland, Squirrel Hill and Greenfield, which are all fairly safe neighborhoods.

SMH....... That was probably the most racist/classist/elitist comments on any thread on CD.....Sorry, I call it like I see it. (You must not see too well) I used to go there and never had a problem once.....

Bloomfields pool is decent but I found that if your AA/black its not the best pool to go to. I went there a couple times as a child and was called N-word so many times I cant count. Highland park is good and a great location. Theres also a pool in Frick park or Schenley park I think.......
