Hello, My partner and I are building a tiny house on wheels that is roughly 8 x 26. We really want to stay in Pennsylvania, live in our tiny house full time as be mostly off grid. I know this is a very hard thing to do in Pennsylvania, but we are very very serious about this. I've read about purchasing land that already has a permanent house on it and parking your tiny house on there and living in the tiny house full time. I actually found land in PA with a rough house on it for 5k and it right up my budget for buying land, here is the link http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/50...07131662_zpid/ Do you think I could get away with placing my tiny house on this land and live in it full time? Or maybe tear down this house and put my tiny house in place of it? Or perhaps anyone knows of any land or place where I could get away with living in my tiny house full time close to Pittsburgh or Armstrong county?

This is an example of what I would be building

I think in a community like north braddock or braddock they would welcome something like this.

Contact the borough, city or municipality and see if that is okay. One of the issues is it is on wheels, so I suspect it isn't considered a house, it is a trailer that needs to have a trailer license in the state of PA. There is a difference in what you are building on wheels compared to building a tiny home on a foundation. This is an important fact. If you were to build it on a foundation and made it possible to move it at a later date via wheels, then I think it would be easier to find a place. If you idea is to move from area to area with your tiny home in tow, then I would try and get a license plate on it. I suspect if you buy a trailer the correct size that has a license, and build your tiny home on top of that licensed trailer, you would be good to go.

I find this really interesting, if you don't mind the question... Why do you want to live in a tiny house and go as far as buying a normal size house to just leave empty?

These are actually really cool. I would never live in one full time, but I have been looking at them as a cabin off of the grid. They're kind of pricey for the size though. You can often buy a brand in single wide with 3x the space for the same price.

That was my question too...I can see living in the tiny house for the sake of efficiency, I just don't know why you'd tear down the house that's already on the property. Even if it was just used for storage, or as an alternate space for the occasional party, it could be useful...curious to know the OP's thoughts on this.

I changed my mind with buying land with a house already on it, I'd very much rather buy land in the woods and live in my tiny house there. My partner and I already live in a pretty small space and we've measured the width and length of what our tiny house would be and we are perfectly fine with the size. We feel as those living and building our tiny house is the best choice for us. The tiny house that I showed in my original post was only made with almost 12k. If they can make that home with 12k then I'm confident my partner and I can do with 15k. We would actually own our home as well. No rent, no mortgage we would fully own it which is great! Also it would be technically a trailer so we would need to register it with the DMV and get a license plate. We don't plan on moving it around either, but if we ever chose to move or want to travel we are able to!

Interesting. A few points:
1) Moving a tiny house might not be a good idea for long distances, especially homebuilt.
2) Do you have exacting plans for this tiny house? Because it's hard to calculate costs without.
3) You might be able to get some free labor to help build this, I think a lot of people would interested in tinyhouses.

Your relationship must be amazing that you both consider a future in such a tiny space! I am glad that there are people who do not feel they need MORE, MORE, MORE....but then again, I do not know your lifestyle, your way of living, how you earn wages.

Don't you want space? An area for alone time? Or maybe you both are so in love that you are perfectly fine with such a small area that most others are not used to. I don't mean to pry - just curious.

if you aren't set on being out in the forrest, this is a pretty good idea.

id contact mayor fetterman, if theres a way to get people(and decent pub) to braddock he will most likely be on board.
