Hello,
I am looking to relocate and am putting out feelers for where i might go.
I am a Jazz Singer and the music and arts scene is utmost in importance to me.
Looking for a musical community that is welcoming. Musicians open to collaboration. That has receptive and supportive audiences. Venues owners respectful enough to pay you for your talent. discipline and, hard work.
Been looking at Richmond, Virginia and Louisville, Kentucky and am very curious about Pittsburgh's musical climate.

If I'm not mistaken AaronPGH is really knowledgeable about the local music scene. If he doesn't reply soon it may be best to send him a private message.

Just from broad stereotyping I'd hazard a guess to say that both Louisville and Richmond have better jazz scenes.

FWIW, I'm new to the area and went to a meet-up recently that featured local jazz musicians jamming. They were very good. I have no idea what the music scene is like here, but the jazz musicians I heard that night were impressive. I'm afraid I don't remember any names. It was a downtown club and the upstairs had been reserved for the meet-up.

Please tell us what you find. It's helpful for newcomers like me to hear about what's happening on the local jazz scene.

I'm actually pretty out of the loop on stuff that isn't electronic or indie oriented. Wish I could weigh in here but I'm afraid I can't!

I'm a classical musician, and I don't know much first hand about the jazz scene, but I work with several people (mostly brass players) who do jazz gigs. I will ask and see what I can find out for you.

I'm interested in this question too. My brother-in-law plays in a jazz group and asked me if I knew of any venues where they might play.

I've heard Little E's downtown does have some of the better stuff going on. Could be a good starting point:
