Pittsburgh's one of MLB's smallest media markets. Jackie Robinson played for a team that was in Market #1 in his day and sits in Market #2 now.

It's easy and convenient for writers to pigeonhole the "small town" team as small-minded, because it's plausible to folks who are uninformed. From a US box office standpoint, it's a less risky choice to mock the team from Pittsburgh than it would be to alienate fans of a team in a large market, like the Cubs or the Giants.

After reading the article, I'll make it a point never to watch the movie.

Maybe its punishment for 20 years of loosing. I get that the film producers don't want to make the Yankees out as bad but a more southern team would have been more believable given the times. I'm not going to fault them for making up a little history, every good movie needs a villain and this is entertainment not a documentary.

I had this on my rent list as there where other films more my style coming out around the same time. But I'll still watch it. Glad to know though that the Pirates where not as bad as they will be portrayed on screen.
