I can't remember what was in the area where the actual mall is now (apparently, upon checking when it opened, I wasn't born yet, lol), but I can remember the slab heap where Wal-Mart, Giant Eagle, Home Depot, etc. are now. It was pretty huge. I'm really interested to see how much of a hand West Mifflin government will have in what comes next...although, that makes it sounds like the mall is dead already. I suppose it may be only matter of time, because there is no way it can function as solely a mall again with full occupancy of stores people actually want to shop.

I'd hate to see it hang on as some sort of ghost mall with wig shops or something like Parkway Center. The area immediately surrounding it (that ironically grew because of the mall) retains enough popular mid-level retail and ensuing traffic that something interesting could happen. It's not the same scenario as say, Eastland or even Parkway Center where there is not much around it to draw people. It sure would be expensive to level it and haul all that away, though.

The sad truth is, had Century III lived up to its full potential, I imagine that it would look a lot like Woodfield mall outside of Chicago give or take (they are set up pretty much the same.) Maybe it can take off again, but it would take some smart investments from ownership to market the mall to both tenants and consumers

It started out as a slag dump and it'll end as a slag dump.

good vision would be great here. that's quite a lot of land that could be reveloped and could help improve the greater area around it
