We would like to take our 2.5 y/o to see the fireworks today if we can keep him up. We're going to avoid the rest of the events for a variety of reasons.

I'd like to find a place where we can see the fireworks while still being relatively close to wherever we park, since he will likely be asleep before or after (the fireworks start at 9:40). We're coming from Ross.

I'm thinking of either somewhere in the North Shore (park in one of the Heinz Field garages, go to the waterfront there), or coming in from Millvale and watching the fireworks from somewhere in the city (like the strip district).

Any suggestions in terms of locations/view/etc. ?

Thanks!

Park in a West General Robinson parking garage and walk up to the top level to watch from the parking garage roof.

Wow, the fireworks bring back memories.
I used to live on N. Mathilda street in Garfield (moved away in 1970).
At the top of the hill on our street was a big mountain of dirt that was flat on top. We played ball up there. You could see clear into town from there. I remember watching the US Steel building go up. We could see the Gulf building with its red and blue top. Watching fireworks from up there was a real treat.

The last time I visited (10 years ago) the whole thing was covered with trees. You would never know it started out as just a big mountain of dirt and concrete. I think it was made from the excavations they were making downtown for the revitilaztion efforts, but I'm not sure.

Anybody know?
