Mt. Hood in Oregon. First is a closeup of a painting titled “Mt. Hood” by Albert Bierstadt. His depiction of the mountain itself is accurate, but he added rather fanciful components such as waterfalls, more mountains and lakes that don't exist in almost all of his paintings. But these paintings achieved their goal, to attract immigrants to brave the Oregon Trail and find a new life.
As a comparison, the real thing from a vantage point in the Columbia River Gorge called Larch Mountain.
The light haze in the sky was due to a major forest fire burning on the south slope of the mountain that day.
