I have the good fortune of being able to watch most of the Philly 4th of July fireworks from my car park deck at my residence. I didn't notice the character this shot took until after reviewing all I took that night, but the firework trails seemed to form the shape of an eagle! I don't know if this was intentional on the part of the designers of the show, but cool nonetheless. Pity though I have a small building blocking part of my view, but it's not really so intrusive.
These are all great shots of fireworks but the key to getting the shot that really separates the men from the boys is to give you fireworks pic a sense of place. Get some of the foreground in the pic or some other element that says where it was taken. The White House or Washington Monument if it's in DC, the Statue of Liberty for NY, the Space Needle in Seatle or a church or a lake where your at.
I'd never really tried fireworks photos before this year. Luckily there are tons of online tips and tutorials for shooting fireworks, which helped a lot.
here's the Macy's display over NYC - as seen from New Jersey.
and a funny little shot that showed up from the Berkeley Heights display...
