Hi everyone. I got my first digital camera last spring. I got an easy share and it has worked very well for taking daily pictures and posting them for my story. Now I want more out of a camera. So please help. I have gotten some ideas already but I would like to hear others.
We have long range views on our property and lots of wildlife. I would love to be able to take pictures of all of our natural surroundings.
I would like to take good pictures and be able to have large prints and posters made from my prints. I know I need a much better camera to do that.
I would like a point and shoot(what is the difference?) and keep it under $500.00 including all accessories.
I also recommend the G10. It has a very wide angle lens (28mm) which is great for landscapes. For a point and shoot, it has excellent optics and image quality which means great large prints. It does more than just "point and shoot" - although it's considered a compact and it's not a DSLR, it has many manual features if you want to have more control (but of course it works in full auto if not).
I like the G10 too, but if you're wanting close-ups of the wildlife, that's not the camera you'll want. For that I'd suggest the 12X zoom Canon PowerShot S5 IS (35mm film equivalent: 36-432mm) or the 20X zoom PowerShot SX10 IS (35mm film equivalent: 28-560mm). With a little sneaking or a blind, those'll get you close-ups of most any wild thing.
Both have a good reputation, but I think most major manufacturers make something similar (10X to 20X) with image stabilization. And you'll want the stabilization if you go with a long zoom. You'd still do better with a tripod at the long ends of those zooms, but IS really helps when you're hand-holding the camera.
Either of the above Canons will be below your $ limit at suggested retail prices of $350 and $400.
