IMG_1605 - Ristras by Ricardo, on Flickr.

A ristra is an arrangement of drying chile pepper pods, garlic bulbs, or other vegetables for later consumption. In
addition to its practical use, the ristra has come to be a trademark of decorative design in the state of New Mexico.

Wagner Farm, Corrales, New Mexico, Oct 10, 2009. From mid-September until frost, green chilies mature and turn
deep red. New Mexicans have traditionally harvested and strung red chile into colorful strings called ristras. The
chile is allowed to dry in New Mexico's warm sun, then is stored, still on the ristra string, for use in various food dishes
during the winter. IMG_2066, Photo by Candy, on Flickr.
