I currently do not have any post production capability, and have never really seen a
need for it due to it's expensive nature. But my wife has recently found selling on Amazon
Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, and not being familiar with any of the post production
software I am wondering if this is good buy for only $49.99 or would you all recommend
some other software instead and if so which ones? Thanks in advance ...... Bill

yes, it is worth it. even being the the dumbed down photoshop, it still is complex and powerful.

lightroom is also a great tool - especially if you deal with a lot of photos at a time.

It's very good imaging software, all that most will ever need. If you can't justify Photoshop, you need Elements.

Elements is a good buy at $50. You could also get Paint Shop Pro X5 for $50 Creative Photo Editor - Corel PaintShop Pro X5 it does more than Elements, it's closer to Photoshop, but may be overkill for your needs.

i didnt have time to elaborate earlier but i find lightroom so much more useful and im still a newbee to it.
the ability to catalog and keyword, sort and the flexibility on storing all your main photos on a portable drive while keeping only the previews on your main computer is pretty cool.

the editing functions are first rate and easy to use.

the ability to make changes on your photos and have them re-edit your photos on smug mug automatically are pretty powerful.

the printing ability and the ability to process lots of photos quickly is second to none.

i rarely used elements and i use photoshop even less. i only use photoshop when i want to do edit pixels and not just raw editing.

my photoshop skills are quite beginner and i really only use it when i want to use certain effects and and filters like topaz or nik and i want to layer it so i can wipe it away from the areas i dont want it.

as far as raw editing lightroom is easy and fast although my favorite and the one i use 75% of the time is nikons own capture nx2 .

it was written by nik sofware and has amazing capability for the price.

I know people have mixed experiences with Paint Shop Pro (PSP), but I found X5 to be pretty buggy so far. It has crashed numerous times on me, just like X4 did, and it took many months before they patched the X4 issues. It is a nice and powerful program, but imo has been sliding a bit since Corel took it over.

Elements 11 since the install has worked very smoothly with no glitches, so I'd personally recommend the $50 Elements 11 at this time between the two.

Photoshop Elements is basically two programs in one (and it's pretty decent at both): (1) "Organizer," for importing, organizing, tagging, grouping, and viewing your photos, and (2) "Editor" to perform edits in either a guided, basic, or expert mode. It offers plenty of functionality for the novices and beyond - although not the level of functionality you'd get with Lightroom or the full version of Photoshop

I have owned and used previous versions of Elements in the past and have been using Paint Shop Pro (PSP) since version 3 (The 15+ year old version). I gave up on elements in the 90's, cost and computer problems and PSP worked on my system and I was familiar.

They both have/had learning curves for me. Switching to just one made it a bit easier. Elements tends to be more expensive than PSP on upgrades, but not much. If I were starting out I would probably go with Elements. Elements is more popular and better supported by the community. But for me, I just had too many hardships with Adobe (The producers of Elements).
