They are just gorgeous. I am so happy to see the animated gif. thank you for posting that. that really gives a good sense for someone who's never seen them in real life. (me)
Thank you for those Rance. I've only once seen a really good display here on the island, but in my youth there were many nights that I used to play hockey under them in Northern Ontario.. Spectacular photos!
Oh, Rance, those are just beautiful! My son is on a cutter somewhere in the Bering Sea. I hope he took his camera along! Should be seeing some good displays of shooting stars, too!
These are just a couple of the 50 or so Sweden and I took last Thursday night. It was 2:00 am at Chena Hot Springs which is about 60 miles north east of Fairbanks Alaska. If anyone ever decides to make a trip up here...I highly recomend a winter trip to enjoy the hot springs in the extreme cold...and some fantastic northern lights viewing from the heated observation room they have. It's a trip you'd never regret or forget. It was Miss Sweden's first time seeing them and she got one heck of a show for an hour and a half. When the red lights erupted she was hooked big time on standing in 16 degree weather just staring at the sky. The big dipper made it even more cool being perfect in the pictures (which you can see in the two above). There is another intense aurora storm predicted for the 31st of this month (Oct) and we hope to get out and get a few more shots from down our way in south central AK.
