Now that I have thousands of images in my PhotoBucket inventory, I've decided to present to everyone my favorite photos (in no particular order). Enjoy!

The former Bethlehem Steel Plant in Bethlehem, PA is a hulk of its former self. This massive, gritty complex is what helps to give the Lehigh Valley its "Rust Belt" image. However, this entire property will soon see new life as a mixed-use casino/hotel/retail/residential complex called "BethWorks."

I loved this oversized catfish statue, which welcomes visitors to the Starfish Brasserie, a seafood restaurant in Downtown Bethlehem.

A lushly-landscaped stairway adorns the Moravian section of Historic Bethlehem.

Sidewalk cafes and bistros adorn Main Street in Downtown Bethlehem.

An awesome home in Downtown Bloomsburg.

Bloomsburg's town square.

Carver Hall, Bloomsburg University.

Surveying the "Pioneer City" of Carbondale from a hillside vista.

A once-grand home for sale in Carbondale that is just begging for a new owner to breathe life back into it. Images like this are commonplace throughout Pennsylvania, a state ravaged by urban sprawl as people gladly throw away the old in favor of the new.

The Waverly Community House, part of the Waverly Historic District in Scranton's trendy suburban area known as "The Abingtons."

Wilkes-Barre's Public Square.

An old rail switch-tower is bedecked in a patriotic theme near Downtown East Stroudsburg in the beautiful Pocono Mountains.

The area surrounding the Asa and Harry Packer Mansions, Jim Thorpe.

Race Street, Jim Thorpe.

Lower Broadway, Jim Thorpe.

One of the "potheads" in Jim Thorpe.

Upper Broadway, Jim Thorpe.

Kingston's Historic District.

Default Beautiful!!

SWB, your pics are lovely. Any advice to a New Yorker raised in Italy who might be thinking of moving to PA?? All of the towns in your photos look so warm and inviting. What are your suggestions for a young couple with a ten year old daughter and two large dogs? Keep in mind I'll be commuting to midtown NYC 5 days a week. Thanks in advance and thank you for sharing your photos.

Thank you very much for the kind compliments; our area truly has unlimited lovely vistas to capture through digital photography. Most of the images I snapped here were from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area of Northeastern Pennsylvania, which is just a tad too far to make a daily commute into Midtown Manhattan feasible. In fact, just about all of Pennsylvania would require at least a 90-minute one-way commute into the city. The areas you might want to consider include the following:

Monroe County, PA
Northampton County, PA
Bucks County, PA

Monroe County is growing at a tremendous pace, adding 70,000 residents to its ranks since 1990. The best area for you to consider here would be East Stroudsburg, which I captured in a photo tour here: https://www.city-data.com/forum/north...hoto-tour.html

The surrounding suburban community of Stroud Township would also be a viable option, as would be the tiny hamlet of Delaware Water Gap. Stroudsburg itself didn't quite have the same "liveability" to it, in my humble opinion, that these other communities did, as can be evidenced by the brief photo tour I did of Stroudsburg before I left town in disgust: https://www.city-data.com/forum/north...t-attempt.html

All of these communities are 5-10 minutes from the New Jersey border via I-80, and they would all be about 90 minutes to NYC, even though I'd recommend you take the Martz Trailways commuter bus into town to save yourself the aggravation and to reduce congestion a bit on I-80.

Northampton County also borders New Jersey and is easily-accessible to NYC via I-78. Some popular commuter communities here are Palmer Township, Forks Township, and the Saucon Valley area just to the south of Bethlehem. The historic district of Bethlehem itself is also charming, as can be seen in my latest photo tour: https://www.city-data.com/forum/penns...hoto-tour.html

Bucks County is also home to a growing number of NYC commuters, even though it is technically a suburb of Philadelphia. There is a commuter rail a lot of people take from nearby Trenton, NJ into Manhattan. Bucks County is tending to be more on the affluent, upper-middle-class side, but there are a lot of quaint small towns left with a lot of charm and history, such as Doylestown, New Hope, and Quakertown.

I love the house pics!...Tudor style house have always been a favorite of mine... The wrap around porches are nice.
The feel of the town is warm and inviting. Looks like a very nice area.

I like this one and all of the play on colors...and that red door....nice.

And this one looks like a fun one to explore and take a peek inside...

Thank you for the info. As far as my commute is concerned, I have to be honest when I say that I'm willing to travel up to about 2 hours each way. Would you mind giving me your thoughts on the following towns : Milford, Honesdale, Jim Thorpe?? I'm looking for a home in a semi rural area with a nice downtown. I'm looking for a home with over an acre of land. I'm in the jewelry/luxury goods trade and I'm sure down the road I could eventually work in Philidelphia. I'm assuming this would be an easier daily commute?? Thanks Again,
T

Thanks for the compliment. In the thousands of images I have taken, I always try to ensure that all nearby pedestrians are out of my line of sight so I don't have to worry about evoking a hostile reaction from a camera-shy person or from a homeowner/shopkeeper who doesn't want his/her home/business photographed for internet exposure. I try to be respectful of others during my photo tours, even though I do unintentionally give my friends here on City-Data the "ghost town" aura of these otherwise vibrant, bustling communities. Trust me, Northeastern Pennsylvania is anything but dead.

I've been snapping these photo tours of various communities in Northeastern and North Central Pennsylvania since late-2006. I joined this forum about one year ago, and I've been hopelessly addicted ever since. My photo tours have grown in popularity, and I've now expanded my radius to include Binghamton, NY, Bethlehem, PA, and Williamsport, PA, all of which are at least one hour from my home. Tomorrow will bring me to another area of Upstate New York for my photo tour (Narrowsburg/Callicoon/Port Jervis), Wednesday might bring me to Hackettstown, NJ, and Thursday might bring me to Pottsville, PA. I'm not going to stop until I've photographed every nook and cranny of Northeastern Pennsylvania, the Southern Tier of Upstate NY, and Northwestern New Jersey, as this has become an obsession for me.
