Not sure how well it will work but I got a Canon Powershot SD1400. Its small and will easily fit in my computer bag. In the past Canon was highly recommended for an inexpensive camera. I'll post some shot here if I can figure out how.
I agree that you cannot go wrong with the Canon Powershot in your price range. Very pleasing image quality, image stabilization that improves your chances of getting sharp photos and they are well mde.
I'm a Canon slr/p&s fan and I ended up buying a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS6. It shoots hd video and allows you to optically zoom while shooting video, not many p&s will do that. I paid 165 (eBay) to my door for one sealed in box (without warranty). I don't see any for sale on eBay right now, but there are similar Lumix models with nearly identical features. Anyway, I couldn't be happier with the quality of the images, video and the camera itself.

That is an amazing price for that camera, the Lumix DMC-ZS6 is normally higher priced and would be a superb camera at that price.
I've got both a Canon Powershot SX120 and a Kodak M530.
To sum it up, the Canon takes decent, but pretty average looking pictures. Nothing spectacular. Images straight out of the camera are a little soft.
The M530 is excellent for the price (~$100). Crystal clear pictures, excellent color reproduction, nice build quality and UI design.
If it were my money and I had to do it over again, I'd get a Kodak z915 for the AA batteries and better zoom. I really like the way Kodak processes colors.
