Rules To The "In Your Home State" Monthly Contest
Post your pictures in the appropriate thread.
Please read the appropriate DISCUSSION THREAD to be up to date before posting. You may post as many photographs in the discussion thread but the actual contest thread
is limited.
The theme in the "In Your Home State" is photographs which you took of your state for U.S.A. entries or your country for those outside the U.S.A.
All photographs must have been taken within 30 days of the date you submitted them. The contest will end at the end of the month.
To be able to stay on a monthly schedule, the last day for submitting entry photographs will be three days before the end of the month, ie, if the month ends on the 30th then photos must be submitted no later than the 27th. If the month ends on the 31th then photos must be submitted no later than the 28th. Etc...
The poll will be opened the day after last day for submitting entry photographs.
Two photographs per contest and one vote per member. You may not vote for yourself.
Storms over the Gore
This was a very impromptu shot. I live in a mountain town at 9,000'. As fall winds down, clear skies are replaced by dark clouds bringing rain and snow, and people start gearing up for the long and hopefully snowy winter. The valley is bounded on the western side by the Gore Range. I was at the bookstore, which has an outside patio overlooking the valley. Caught sight of these storm clouds coming over the mountains at dusk. Dark clouds taking over the clear sky, and the pinpricks of light with people safely ensconced in their homes against the elements make this shot for me.

Orion over Lake Dillon
Ringed by a paved recreation trail and dotted with campgrounds, playgrounds, shorelines, and a couple of marinas, Lake Dillon is a major attraction in the valley. The Tenmile Range bounds the southwestern edge of the lake and creates a great backdrop with the sharp peaks. Captured this scene of the Orion constellation rising over Lake Dillon and the Tenmile Range yesterday morning. Didn't dress properly (forgot to look at the temperature before heading out) and froze my fingers and toes off shooting for two hours in 30F temps.

I've been busier than usual this month and have been seeing some gorgeous shots of the Sierra this Fall. The El Nino weather really provided some excellent snow pack and water for the trees this year.
But I managed to take a short trip to the Eastern Sierra and really enjoyed seeing the Aspens changing color. Here a couple from the trip.
