I am currently assisting in documenting the history of a 1940's Chev Truck.

The truck was supplied by Ed Rudolph Chevrolet Dealer 316 - 346 East Adams Phoenix

Would anyone know what happened to this company and did development of Phoenix result in the loss of this part of East Adams.

Any photos or information would be appreciated

Thanks

Peter

3rd St and Adams is now in the middle of the Phoenix Civic Plaza (very large convention area). That company would have been gone a LONG time ago, probably long before the construction of that first part of the Civic Plaza. It moved north and west, to 27th Ave and Camelback, (near I-17) where it was called just Rudolph Chevrolet (I'm sure it's the same company) I think it was already there when we moved here in 1958.

Hi Observer. Thanks for your reply. I had looked on Google Maps and Streets and began to see that the area had changed.

There is a long thread on here about Phoenix and I have been looking through the photos there to see if I can see the old place.

Thanks for your help.

Peter

This is the artist impression on a box of matches and a photo that is described as being Art Deco.

Here is a shot of a car dealership at that address in 1933. Probably Rudolph.

Attachment 51350

By the way, Ford was on Van Buren and 1st Street.

Another old time Phoenix business was diagonally across the street from Rudolph's called Jarrett's Hardware, 4th St. and Adams. They had 4 huge brass cash registers on a platform that they used until they closed decades later.

Hi Roosevelt. Many thanks for your help on this.

I have now discovered that Ed Rudolph had a Ford Dealership in Phoenix, dates unknown, however the Ford Logo on the front of the building above was changed in 1927, so this photo dates it pre 1927 ish.

There was an M.E Neessen who worked with Ed back in the 50's. Together they formed a partnership and moved the business to El Paso Texas in 1960.

Neessen bought out Ed Rudolph in 1965. The dealership is now Rudolph Chevrolet.

In appreciation

Great picture, roosevelt. I KNEW you would have something!

I wonder, then, if the Rudolph Chevrolet that was here for years at 27th/Camelback (until it was bought by Lou Grubb) is related to the original one, and/or to the El Paso business that still exists. I would imagine it has to have been.

I do remember Rudolph Chevrolet on the northeast corner of 27th Ave and Camelback, which became Lou Grubb Chevrolet around 1972 or 1973, until just a few years ago, when they relocated to Peoria, around Arrowhead on west Bell Road.

The lot on 27th Ave & Camelback is now vacant, the dealership that occupied it after Lou Grubb, until about a year ago, has gone out of business, just like many of the dealerships on west Glendale, west of 43rd Ave.

Power Chevrolet took over the Lou Grubb store then went out of business at that location.

I am very familiar with Rudolph Chevrolet and it was owned by my father and Grandfather. Any information regarding this car dealership I can most likely find out by asking my father about it.
