So I found this at Sams Club...

What is it? A thermostat with a remote sensor.

Why is it good? You can set the temp. you want, say 77 degrees, and put the remote sensor in whatever room you are. It makes a whole lot more sense then taking the temp at a central location where the temp can be 3-4 degrees different then the room you're in.

Just a friendly public service announcement.

And then it cools that one room only to 77 degrees but the rest of the house is still at different temps???

Thats actually quite nifty, my room is always the hottest room in the house, and its the only room I'm ever in.

Whoa....whoa! How would the remote control cool one room to 77 while the other rooms are at a different temp?

sounds like a waste of energy. Sure that room would be cool, but the rest of the house would be cold and your electric bill would, im sure, spike.

no, I don't think it'd cool only one room as your A/C delivers the same air to all rooms with a register....

I think this means you can put the "remote" in whatever room you want to get to a certain temp and it'll run until that happens.....I think it just means you can have the "central" unit in any room, not a fixed place on a wall somewhere.....

Well...what other option is there for that kind of scenario, which is exactly what the purpose of the remote sensor.

In our situation, we work out of the front room which faces east and get very warm during the day compared to the rest of the house. The main thermostat will show 76 degrees (with the AC at 77 for example) yet the front room will read 80-81 degrees.

With the remote sensor, I can set it on my desk and it will keep it at 77 in the room I'm in. Sure the rest of the house will be colder but at least it's doing it in an efficient manner vs me going and guessing what the rest of the house should be at so that the front room is comfortable.

By the way, it's $69 for the new thermostat and remote sensor.

Not a bad idea. My thermostat is in the hallway. I don't spend much time there, obviously.
