Hi,
I will be moving from LA to Gilbert in a 10' Uhaul truck next month and want to get an estimate on how much money it will cost in gas. The approximate mileage is 460. Does anyone know how many miles per gallon these trucks get and how many gallons in a tank?

Thanks.

look up a company called U-pack or ABF shiping. It was actually cheaper to ship my items than it would have been to rent and drive a uhaul. when I moved from MI to AZ

You are going to use around 40 gallons, so expect to pay at least $100 in gas, if not more.

Thanks for the U-pack referral. I got a quote and it would be $321 from terminal to terminal and $867 for door to door delivery.
I got quotes from the three main truck rentals a few days ago and they're all about the same. I think U-haul was $238 for the truck plus $10 for the cart. So with tax about $275 plus $100 for gas.

I did a mapquest for the actual miles and it is less than I though - only 421. Still it would be about $100.

You have to pay per mile, and I have learned that you end up putting on more miles than you think.

I moved from one spot to another, the distance according to google maps was 4 miles, we made 2 trip and somehow had over 40 miles on the truck!

We used half a tank of gas in 40 miles with their smallest possible truck.

I did terminal to terminal and rented uhaul trucks to get my things to and from the terminals. Still ended up paying less than door to door, and les than what I would have paid for a one way uhaul rental.

good luck
