My wife and are thinking about moving to the Phoenix area and have heard good things about the Chandler area. What are the commute times from Chandler to downtown Phoenix during rush hour? Not during rush hour?

Thanks for any help!

I live in south Chandler and used to work in central Phoenix (Central and Osborne). The drive in rush hour was 50 minutes to an hour. Without traffic, depending on how you drive, it takes about half that time. Just as a disclaimer, I haven't worked in that area in 4 years, but I doubt the drive has changed much...and certainly not for the better...so I would plan for that kind of commute if you choose to live in Chandler, which is a nice area with good schools, good access to freeways, decent housing prices.

I would think it is worse than that now, depending upon the time of day of the commute. I live in Central Phoenix (near Central and Encanto) and used to work in Chandler (Price & Queen Creek). My commute was typically 45 minutes or more, but I moved fairly quickly most of the time. The traffic in the opposite direction, which is more or less what is being asked about here, was often at a dead stop.

Depending upon your requirements, price range, etc., don't cross Central Phoenix off the list until you have done some investigation. The historic neighborhoods (Willo, Roosevelt, Encanto Palmcroft, FQ Story, Coronado, etc.) have some very nice homes. Some are a bit expensive, and the public schools are not great, but you'd get back several hours a week that would otherwise be spent sitting in traffic.

I live in NW Chandler, roughly halfway between I-10 and 101 on Chandler Blvd. I commute into downtown Phoenix every day on I-10. Leaving around 6:45am I get there in roughly 35 minutes, and leaving work around 4:00pm I get home in 40-50 minutes.

Those are normal days. Accidents can add 20-40% more time to that, and unfortunately there tend to be quite a few accidents...
