We moved here from out of state recently. My 28 year old son is a lover of fast cars. I'm thinking about flying him here to the experience the auction. Is it just an auction or is it a huge event with other things to do?

Even prior to semi-retiring and relocating to Tucson many years ago, I have been a Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson Fan / Regular for many years.

Granted, the "commercial tone" has increased over the decades, however, it is still a fantastic experience that no Car / Truck Enthusiast should ever missed . . . especially since it is right here in our own backyard.

There is much more to see than what is displayed on the TV so be prepared for lots of walking in a somewhat "carnival atmosphere" and be certain to allocate plenty of time.

Good Luck.

To add to what Bummer said, it is essentially a huge car show. You can walk the grounds of Westworld and look at all the cars (thousands?) that will be up for auction. There are also an incredible number of vendors who have booths set up that you can look at their products and get tech assistance. As Bummer said, be prepared for lots of walking.

and there are other slightly-lesser well-known car shows/auctions in the Phx area at the same time....not just well-known Barrett-Jackson.....look for discount coupons around town as it's sorta pricey to get in.....plan on spending all day.....

OP, I generally go every year to the Barrett Jackson Auction. It's a huge venue, the auction is only a part of the show. There's entertainment and things to do for everyone, kids, women and men. Besides very nice cars on display they have trucks, semi's, busses, airplane/helicopters, motorcycles etal. They have 2 huge buildings full of vehicles and acres & acres outside of more vehicles and stuff. There's a food court area with a dozen or so eateries.
They usually have a test drive area for some new car brands that you can experience, plus some test drivers to take you for a spin on a small track in some nice fast rides.
It takes 4 to 6 hours to just look and see everything aside from the bidding process.
They have a huge parking lot with free shuttle to the main gate.
