It was interesting to hear about the story about the sour oranges. Seems that, originally, Del Webb planned for the boulevards and parks to have sweet oranges planted on them. But the citrus growers put up such a fuss about the people having access to free oranges, that they ended up planting sour orange trees, instead. Actually, weren't there lots of citrus groves located where the cities were built? Sun City in particular.

I don't know that there were citrus groves where Sun City is, but there were many of them in other parts of the Valley. A big chunk of Arcadia was carved out of a citrus orchard, many of the houses, including the one I first lived in in the Valley, had MANY trees remaining in the yard. A small orchard remained nearby, another one a mile or so away, along Camelback.
